U Value

Measures how readily a window conducts heat. It is a measure of the rate of non-solar heat loss or gain through the assembly. The lower the U Value, the greater a window’s resistance to heat flow and the better its insulating value.

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient

Measures how readily heat caused by sunlight flows through a window. SHGCw is expressed as a decimal between 0 and 1. The lower a window’s SHGCw, the less solar heat it trans-mits.

Wind Load

The force on a structure arising from the impact of wind on it. Upvc Windows and Doors can withstand storms with wind pressure of 3000 pascals, which is equivalent to a speed of 245 KM/hr. Pakistan Building Code Provides: Until detailed wind data is available, all the structures inland shall be designed to resist a minimum wind velocity of not less than 120 km per hour (75 mph) at a height of 10 meters (33 ft) and all the struc-tures along the coast shall be designed to resist a wind velocity of not less than 130 km per hour (80 mph) at a height of 10 meters (33 ft).

Air Leakage

Heat is lost and gained via infiltration through cracks in the window assembly. It is indicated by an AL expressed as the equivalent cubic feet of air passing through 1 ft2 of window area. The lower the AL, the less air will pass through cracks in the window assembly. Windows with an AL of 0.30 or lower (units are cfm/ft2) should be selected.
